do u really need it? i know some people have dark tints on theirs, and i did on my old x, but i think gettin some cheap walmart fogs in the rear would be sufficient. i guess it would be neat to have something like that, but how much is it? is it cost effective?

i dunno. i know some newer X's have a reverse sensing system on the rear bumper from the factory. this thing is prolly way overpriced, but i just figured id throw it up there for the hell of it.

I would like it if it gate a distace or camera view. It would make parrallel parking easier :)

FYI - The way mine works is that it starts to beep when it senses something 30" away. It starts to beep faster, the closer you get, until when you are 10" it becomes a solid tone.
You can turn the whole thing off with the switch on the dash.
$255 option, and you get black dots on the bumper....

I always have trouble judging how close I am to something when backing up. When I'm in a car its no problem but when I'm backing into a parking spot in my explorer or something, I feel like I'm right on top of whatevers behind me and then when I get out and look I'm like 2 feet away. Maybe because the window is so high or something. Heh, I know I wouldnt want something on the back of my explorer that said 'reverse guard' in big letters.

I'm not a big fan of reverse sensors. I've never had problems backing up without them, so it just wouldn't occur to me to buy one.

I remember reading a test of some truck in Four Wheeler that came with a reverse sensing system, but there was no off-switch, it was just on all the time. At first it doesn't seem like that would be a problem, until you try backing up while towing. The sensors sensed the trailer and went crazy

Anyway, personally, I wouldn't get it. But, if you do get one, look for one with all the kinks worked out and with all the little stuff taken care of :)

When I bought my '02 Limited, reverse sensors were not a requirement for my decision. The vehicle I ended up with had them and I'm really glad I got the feature now. It adds some piece of mind while backing up. It works really well, and can be turned off for times when you don't want it. The aftermarket one that looks like a license plate holder is probably not going to work as well as the factory one that's on mine since mine was tuned for this vehicle, and the license plate one is probably tuned for the average vehicle.

what do u mean by tuned? the sensor just measures how far away an object is. distance is the same no matter what car its on. maybe ur talking about the height of the X compared to other sedans? i guess maybe have the earlier 95-97 x where the license place was on the bumper compared to the 98-01 where it was on the hatch might make a slight difference, but nothing someone couldnt adjust to

It really is measuring distance, but there is a pattern that it measures that isn't like a box, but rather an oval sensing pattern from each sensor. Since mine are spread across the width of the bumper, it can detect objects that are close to the edges of the car not just straight behind it. If the sensor specs don't show you the pattern of detection, then it probably isn't a good one.
