Aggravating front end pop?

I was going to try your screwdriver trick, dont you have to buy the spindle adapter for the slide hammer to get the spindle off? I dont want to shell out $70 for a adapter, thats for sure.

Nope... I just re-installed the large spindle nut and used the standard 3 jaw puller that comes in the kit. Three easy pulls later the spindle was off.

Cool, I am pricing some slide hammers right now. My local oriellys and Autozone only carry the 3lb dent pullers, so looks like I gotta buy one.

My local AutoZone sells the same dent pullers, but they have a section behind the counter of all the free loaner tools.

Luck is with me today, I talked to the manager of both oriellys and autozone about the tool, Oriellys wouldnt be able to get me one for a few days, but Autozone came through, got me a brand new slide hammer kit, and the spindle adapter, as loaners.
So it looks like I am in business Saturday morning! I will let ya'll know how things turn out.

You will love using the correct tool.
My pick up , my Jeep and this 'X' has the same spindle setup. After busting my butt on the picup truck to do Ball joints, I asked a Shop how they get them off. He was doing Ball joints that day and I saw how the Socket and Slide Hammer worked. I Shopped on E-bay until I got the Socket at a good price and bought a Harbor Freight Big Slide Hammer. It was so nice when I used it to do Ball joints on teh 'X'.

Well ****, got the new bearing in, ujoint was ok, in good shape. This fixed the raspy 4x4, and loose wheel/rotor. However it did nothing to the G.D. popping, so I am out of ideas now. How do I test for bad tie rod joints, inner and outer? I greased em the other day, and tried to wiggle em to check for play, solid as a rock. Thanks.

I have checked the Tie rod ends, the passenger seems to be ok, but the drivers side, the little rubber grease bag thing has collapsed and when I give it some grease from a grease gun, it shoots right out the side. Could this be the problem? I have the front end on jackstands and have been turning the wheels back and forth, not a peep, so whatever it is is stress related.

Thanks, I think I will replace both here sometime soon, sucks cause I just got 'er aligned a month ago.
I have been listening to the popping some more, I think it may be coming from the caliper, other than when the wheels are turned, the pop occurs whenever the brakes are applied in the opposite direction, back up and hit the brakes, it pops, go forward it pops when you hit the brakes. But why its popping when the wheels are turned, I have no clue now. My calipers are in great shape, pistons are leak free and wear is even and no pull.
I wish I had the time and money to SAS, I am sick of this G.D. TTB, and crappy brakes.

I will have to check, no he didnt say anything, and I even asked him if there were any complications, he said everything was ok, I didnt feel like arguing with him.
I rebuilt my rear brakes on sunday, just to check, and make sure. Normal wear and tear, the new shoes are a little better, but nothing impressive. Of course this did nothing to the popping.

Im in the same boat Darrman. Any update? I have no clue where this sound is coming from, but mine is identical to what you describe... and Ive done the same repairs while trying to remedy it.

Yeah, it turned out to be the lower bolt that connects the radius arm to the axle, in the pic its right next to the jackstand. I had to torque the living crap out of that bad boy, it requires 220lb's of torque, had to get a 4 foot cheater and lay on my back with one foot against the passenger tire to get it tightened down, a good impact wrench would have come in handy right then.
This fixed it immediatly, no problems since then.

I have the same popping sound in the front end. I first noticed the nylon-like bushings that space my radius arm and fit it into the bracket(the old one was rusted through) on my car were wore out. I replaced the bracket. I replaced this back in 2004. I have a feeling that i didn't get the bolt tight enough. This may be the source of my problem too. Ill let you know how it goes.

i beam pivot bushing...

Auto Hubs....

do i hear tie rod for 25?
