Don't know if this is the answer, but...

I had an airbag lite about a year ago, the ford dealer chased down the problem and it had to do with, get this, the driver seatbelt lock. I guess with the newer Explorers it senses if the driver is wearing a seatbelt and deploys the airbag accordingly faster if you not wearing slower if you are. I asked when this lite was on if it would deploy when it needed to and he said that it might NOT... So i would look into it as soon as ya can. But, like I said that was just my problem I sure there is a ton more faults that could cause it though. But if your depending on the bag for safety, I would get it looked at

You've got an issue with the airbag system.

When you start up and for the next couple minutes it'll blink a number sequence - i.e. blink, blink, blink (pause) blink, blink = Code 32. Do a search here for "Airbag codes" and there will be a link for a Ford Probe website that gives the specifics of the code.

I've got a code 44 = Right-Front sensor not mounted to vehicle properly. Some have suggested a bad connection/ground. Sensors are about $100 or so, but be extremely careful (disconnect battery at least 10 min. prior to tackling the repair) if you choose to DIY...

did you find that ford probe website?

My lights on too.. it flashes 1 - 2 5 times before staying on. So im assuming i have code 12 ; and no1 seemed to have that code yet on this site - im special :D

i did find this though:
12 Low Battery Voltage
| 13 Air Bag Circuit or Crash Sensor Circuit - Shorted to Ground
| 21 Safing Sensor - Not Mounted on Vehicle Properly
| 22 Safing Sensor Output Circuit - Shorted to Battery Voltage
| 23 Safing Sensor Input Feed/Return Circuit Open
| 24 Open in Circuit 944B or Low Resistance in Crash Sensor(s)
| 32 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open
| 33 Pin 7 Not Grounded at Diagnostic Monitor
| 34 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - Low Resistance or Shorted
| 35 Low Resistance Across Pins 8 and 9 at Diagnostic Monitor
| 41 Crash Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open
| 44 RH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
| 45 Center Radiator Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
| 46 LH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
| 51 Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Blown and Short to Ground No Longer Exists
| 52 Backup Power Supply - Voltage Boost Fault
| 53 Internal Diagnostic Monitor Fault

Yeah, that's right. If the light is on, the airbag will not deploy...supposedly. Mine is on in my '96 XLT and blinks a code of 42.

i wonder if mine was caused by submerging it in mud and water too many times.. i bet my (+) connection on the sensor is corroded as hell

where is Air bag Sensor located

Can anybody tells me what does it look like the air bag sensor and where it goes. I have a black two wire sensor hanging at driver side behind the fwd bumper, is maybe the posible cause off my yellow airbag light on all the time and 4 chime sounds every time I drive my X?

Same issue caused mine...

My code 44 occured immediately after i drove through a 2' deep puddle after a big rainstorm. My 44 is "front right crash sensor not mounted properly."

I agree that, given my circumstances, it may just be corrosion. Haven't taken the initiative to actually check the connection.

The airbag sensors are about 2"x2+" (or so) rectangular and mounted just behind the header panel. They have a white plastic connector with 2(?) wires. If you get beneath the front bumper and look up you'll see 3 sensors up there (center & just beneath the headlights).

I think i replied to your post about the chime sounds...do you wear your seatbelt? in newer fords it chimes until you "plug in"

ok, thanks about the sensor,,, and yes I wear the SB and panel light go off, the chime keep going for one minute four times and stop.

I need to make a correction.
An air bag in fault is actually MORE likely to go off inapproprapetly. ( screw correct spelling )

A common problem in 99, 2000 is the pig tail for the non existant side impact air bags.
Under each seat is a yellow conector. Most often the passenger is the culprate.
Grab said connector, pull the cap off, blow into it two or three times and put the cap back on. I did that to mine well over a year ago and the air bag light has not come back since.

sk1er17, if you ever wander down to Maryland I have an Air bag scan tool if you still need infor on your code.

actually im in Maryland quite a bit.. to visit my better half at Salisbury University. How far are you from there?

I haven't been worried about my air-bag light, just came across this thread and found interest in it. But if you're not far from there it might be worth stopping by to figure out exactly what the problem is...

ive always wondering if i should disable the system due to its current state- kinda worried about my airbag deploying while offroading. that would suck - especially if im leaning forward keepin an eye on the terrain :thumbdwn:

Disabeling is tricky since the ignightor is IN the bag assembely.
Just to pull a guess out of my a$$ it would be best to disconnect at the bag its self, but even that could prove to not work out to your advantage.

I am up just south of Baltimore. A pretty good way from Salsbury.
A bunch of us Explorer folk are getting together next month for dinner.
See our thread " Maryland Meet & Greet " started by Blee in the Everything Under the Sun department.
