Could my air charge sensor be bad and cause me poor mileage? I know that some of the parameters are based on air temp. and wondering if this is part of the reason i went from almost 20 mpg's on highway to just 12! I have a 5.0 with AWD.

Is your check engine light on? I think if it was bad you would get a code 24 from that failing the self test.

Oops, I was thinking OBD-I your 97 is OBD-II you would defiantly get a check engine light if it was bad.
Probably a cheap part if you want to go ahead and try it. Take a look at RockAuto and see what they get for it. You could also try some Intake Air Sensor Cleaner on it.

No CEL. But I did replace an O2 sensor 2 months ago and then had the CEL come on for that same sensor 2 weeks later. My mechanic thinks it could be that the first CAT on Pass side maybe plugging. All the others ( there are 4 of them) have been replaced at least 80,000 ahead of that one. I know my EGR valve has never benn replaced. Could coil packs be "weak"? Weak spark?
