My '96 EB has an electronic AC/heater. When it is set on "max ac" it will freeze you. If it is turned up one degree (65 or higher) it goes to full heat which will cook you. (There is no in between.) Also, it sometimes will not do anything at all but this happens only when it is first started. I have discovered that when this "refusal to start" happens, slamming the pasenger door will sometimes get it to come on. Other than that, the system works just fine. I could realy use some advice. Thank you.

Other than an expensive dealer trip, you might try searching for the common problems. Your temperature sensor sounds suspect. Try to check that it is clean. it is mounted just behind the dash. Look for the tiny grille opening, to the left of the glove box.

The pre 98 models have blend doors which are prone to breaking. I don't know if that could cause yopur symptoms, but you could search for "blend door AC" to see what others have found. Good luck,
