Does anyone have an issue to where the air conditioner is on (auto), everything is fine and comfortable inside the car, when suddenly the temperature gets noticeably colder for no reason. It gets so cold that I have to temporarily readjust the temperature. Vehicle is 2020 Explorer ST.

Not your exact problem but I have noticed the A/C warm up when the car is on auto stop and then when it starts again it goes back to the original temp. I turn auto start/stop on for this exact reason as they never told me it would affect the A/C performance

The A/C compressor is mechanically driven by the engine. When the engine is stopped, the compressor is stopped too, ergo the air warming up towards ambient temps. Once the engine is running again, the compressor also turns and the A/C system can then produce cooling air.

The Auto-Start-Stop feature will not always turn the engine OFF if certain conditions are not met (see Manual). Therefore it is possible it may continue running even if the feature is ON and the vehicle is stopped. I've noticed that sometimes on a hot day with the A/C running the Auto-Start-Stop will not engage.

The issue I am having with the A/C occurs while driving down the freeway. There is no stop/starting when this has occurred. I spoke with my service advisor from Ford. He has a Ford truck and he has noticed the same thing with his vehicle. He believes it is normal. I was just curious if anyone else has noticed this issue.

I understand that. My reply about stop/start was to Billy.

Mine will go cold sometimes in order to keep the interior temperature as selected.
Happens mostly when climate control is not set to AUTO.

Seems to work much more evenly if I've climate control set to AUTO.

Yes, I get this too.

And I also wonder why AUTO has three different fan speeds. I have two older GM vehicles with AUTO and it holds the temp at the selected temp by adjusting the fan speed automatically, like you would expect AUTO to do!

I will add that I often drive 100+ miles down the interstate and back so the there is really not much change in speed or engine RPM at all when the big chill comes on occasionally lol.

Agreed... I have only noticed this on longer trips too...
