You won't notice any power gains with any aftermarket air filter. What you will gain is a lot better quality filtration and you will never need to buy a filter again (just service kits).

K&N filter "efficiency" is lost after the filter is cleaned with the service kit.
I agree, you won't notice a performance difference.
Every vehicle that I've installed one in has developed a lot of crud (oily silt) on the engine side of the filter after 5-10K miles. And yes, they were properly oiled and installed.

amsoil makes a dry filter that u can clean an u dont need to oil it after :) 45 bucks on up for diff sizes

Last summer I went with the K&N and......

modified my air box. I noticed a very nice difference.

I went with AEM because of the dry filter element. There are other dry element cone type filters out there. You could get one of the oiled filter intakes like the Mac, and instead of cleaning when the times comes, replace with an Amsoil cone filter. I did notice better throttle response and a slight gain in mpg, so long as you resist the temptation to step on it.

I prefer the True Flow filters. They are a wet foam filter, do a great job, and if you do happen to mud up the air box, they are easy to shake out and return to running.

FOr off-road use, I ran mine in a modified air box, with a hood-mounted snorkle scoop setup.
