hi everybody,

i'm having a bit of a problem with my 1999 explorer sport. since changing the fuel pump (+fuel line cause it ripped in two while lowering the tank), the gas gauge needle stay at the half position when i fill up the tank. on top of that, i loose power on quick acceleration and when going uphill... Does anybody have an idea of what my problem is, and how to solve it? thank you.

p.s. it's a 6 cyl overhead cam 4.0 L.

fuel system mess...

thanks.

well all the parts where from the dealer. i gotta tell you also that in the winter time, the car won't start until after at least 5 tries. And i have to hold down the gaz pedal. once the engine is warm, it starts normally. that was the reason i initially changed the fuel pump...

one more thing, when i fill up the tank, the smell of gaz takes over the car completely. I've had a diagnostic done at the advance autoparts. they told me there was a leak in the emission system(possibly the evap canister), but so far, nobody can locate it for me.. please help!!

i live in canarsie.

It sounds like your float might be stuck in the tank and maybe causing a problem for the intake of fuel to the pump. did you change your pump or have a repair shop do it???? did they / you seat the pump properly along with the seal in the top of the tank?
