I have a '93 XLT 3.0 V6 with a stock air intake system on it. I've had a couple of problems with it throughout the four years or so that I've owned the truck (had to have the filter box replaced once and problems keeping the system sealed) and now it's more or less just falling apart and needs to be replaced. But I was thinking about getting something other than what's in there now. I want a system that's going to actually survive the years and deliver better airflow to let the engine breathe a bit easier for better performance. Does anyone have any specific recommendations or advice? I'm not looking for anything extravagant, again just something better. Thanks.

OEM setup will last you a long time along with K&N drop in filter. If you try to modify the OEM box, you'll have loud noise without any perfromance increase.. K&N filter won't give you perfromance nor milage increase but will save you $$ in the long run.
