i have a quick question, I bought a kkm filter a while ago and was wondering if there is a aftermarket air intake tube for a first gen explorer, my stock plastic one is pretty bad.

I think KKM is planning to make one to go along with the kit you just bought. It might be a while though.

The iFab tube is metal and will heat soak; a plastic or carbon fiber tube would be better.

Your best bet right now is to replace your original with another stock one. I'm sure there's someone willing to sell you one here.

heat soak

About "heat soak": Anyone know which material fares better? PVC, ABS, steel, aluminum, radiator hose, silicone, toilet paper tubes, etc... and if the various wraps/tapes help at all.

silicon is probably the best.......

heat wrap tapes do work

PVC heat soaks pretty bad. So does metal.
My tube is stock but has heat-reflective tape wrapped on it (Cool Tape by Design Engineering). I have never measured intake temps though...it would be quite difficult to do since my truck doesn't have an IAT on the tube like later Explorers do (I think they do anyway) and you would risk vac leak poking a hole somewhere for a thermistor probe..
