Hey guys,

I`m getting air bag code 44 on my 04 Sport Trac. Looking on-line its telling me that the right radiator crash sensor is not mounted properly. I spent about 2 hrs. looking for this sensor with no luck. Does anybody know where this sensor is? Anybody have pictures of it to help me out? Thanks

mine is a '03 ST. But, should be the same.
"The front impact severity sensor is located on the lower radiator core support next to the hood latch support bracket."
Be sure to disconnect negative battery cable before doing anything!
Do you have one of those "tool trays" surrounding the hood latch? If so, remove that and you should see it.
My ST have 1 sensor. It's on the drivers side. Just a inch over from the hood latch.
Look straight down. It's held in by one bolt attached to a metal bracket which is attached to the rad support. Next to that is the overhead console temp sensor.
Make sure the bracket and sensor mating surfaces are clean and debris free. The sensor has locator tabs that align to holes in the bracket. Also, check for wire corrosion.
Hope this helps.
btw...some refer to the right or left side of a vehicle standing in front of it looking at it using their right or left. :thumbdwn:
Right or left is referenced as if you were sitting in the drivers seat. I try to always use drivers side or passenger side. I think that may be the confusion.:dunno:

Seriously, disconnect battery negative! I would turn the headlights on to drain any residual and wait at least a half hour or more. You don't want the airbags to go off!

Scratch that!!!!!!! That info I gave is for code 42!!
Code 44: passenger side front row impact sensor
It's near the base of the B-piilar. (Behind the plastic molding that the seat belt goes down into. Almost to the floor)
I just found it. I popped the plastic panel out. Its a yellow connector. I got to it from the rear passenger door.
Maybe some one kicked it?
Remember, have a '03. The code may be different on your 04.?

I found the sensor near the bottom of the B-pillar. After I disconnected the battery for a bit, I unplugged it and removed the sensor. The wires appear to be clean, and so does the sensor's but I cleaned them anyways. Put everything back together, re-connected the battery. Started up truck, still getting the Code 44 :( Maybe the sensor is shot? or a bag ground somewhere?

when air bags deploy i.e. sensors are tripped the sensor is an electronic g/shock meter these meters go out or "trip" if hit hard enough and simply cause they are electrical they wear out over time. i had a 91 merc that never "popped" the bags but the air bag light was tripped due to a shot sensor replaced the sensor light goes out

also, these codes are prioritized. The fault having the highest priority will be displayed.
That being said. A dying battery can also cause an airbag code/light. So, clean your battery terminals and be sure they are on securely. Also, have the battery checked.
I see in the manual, there are a lot of resistance and volts checks you can do.
I have read online that a lot of times cleaning the sensor and mating surfaces and unplugging and reconnecting the sensors have fixed the issue. Also, read that these issues can indeed be triggered from a bad/dying battery.

But, like dakota said. Sensors can just wear out over time
