I have an intermittent issue where my truck's alarm will trigger within seconds of turning off the engine.
I drive around fine, park, turn the key to the off position, key is still in the ignition, and the alarm goes off.
I'm still in the driver's seat. There's still accessory power. I have not set the alarm. The keyfob has no effect.
The only way to stop it is to turn the key to the run position. Turning the key back to off, the alarm will trigger
once again. The only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery. When I reconnect the battery, even after many
hours disconnected, the alarm might be triggered once again, unless the key is already in the run position.
I can start the engine and drive just fine. I've never had the vehicle disabled by the alarm.
I've tried to notice any patterns.
Sometimes it happens after rain, making me think it's water shorting something out. But many times it rains with
no issues at all.
Sometimes it happens after I've used my OBD dongle and Forscan. But again, many times I have no problems at all.
Other times it happens for no apparent reason. No rain. No OBD usage. Just routine daily driving.
It eventually clears up on it's own. Sometimes I just have to drive around again for 10 minutes. Other times I have
to keep disconnecting the battery for a few days after every drive before it clears up.
Then everything will be fine for months, perhaps even a year.
I'm a computer tech by trade, and schooled in electronics engineering. Troubleshooting intermittent problems like this
is a royal pain, because there is no clear broken part.
I have the 2 volume factory service manuals plus wiring diagrams, but there's almost nothing about the alarm system.
The best I can gather is that the PCM _IS_ the alarm system.
I've seen discussion about the various door sensors but whenever I've monitored them in Forscan I've found no issues.
I have seen other suggestions but nothing strikes me as being the same exact issue, or the same symptoms.
I've never seen anything using Forscan that gives me a clue, no related DTC's. Maybe there's some other function I
can check I'm not aware of?
Anyone have any ideas? This is getting really annoying. And embarrassing.
Thank you much in advance.
Brian
