Ok I got a new headunit for my 97' sport. I didnt get factory amp bypass so now I have to run these damn wires that are like 20 feet long from the headunit to the factory amp. I figure if im doing all this why not get an amp and just do that, because I plan to put 2 12's in the back soon that I already have.

What kind of amp do I need to run one, and possibly later on 2 MTX thunder4000 12's. They are 200 watts RMS, and 400 watt peak. the recommended amp power is 50-200 rms.
I plan to only run one of the subs now, but I would like to get an amp that could handle them both, unless its going to cost a lot.
What kind of amp do I need, and how do I hook everything up! I am not going to top of the line performance, I just want some extra bass, and I might as well do it if I have get on this factory amp now anyway. thanks!

For the sub amp try an MTX 4250D , it puts out enough power for the subs. I have the 4250D hooked up to 2 RF 3410's and they hit nicely with about 200 watts each. With one MTX 4000 sub a mono amp will run at 4 ohms, then add the second sub in parellal which reduces the load to 2 ohms but any decent mono amp is stable at 2 ohms.

For the new HU you need to bypass the stock amp, your new HU puts out a cleaner and stronger signal then the ford amp.

thanks I went ahead and bypassed the amp, got it all done... my new headunit sounds good, thanks! I will check out that amp, how much should it run me?

Any other suggestions on AMPS? I see the MTX 4250D on eBay for like $190 - but can I find anything even cheaper? thanks.
