Has anyone installed an Alpine (or other mark) Navigation unit in their Explorer? I was wondering if it fits OK, since the A/C vents are above the stereo. So when the screen folds out, is there anough room, not to mention the fact that the vents could be blocked. Let me know if you've done this, and how it turned out.

I have a Kenwood in-dash TV installed in my 99 Explorer and it fits fine. The only problem is that it blocks the front vents when it is folded out. But to me that isn't to big of a deal...you can still feel some air coming out of it from around the screen. If you want more info or pics just let me know!

Please show pics!

Yes, please show some pictures if you could. I'm looking to install a complete navigation/entertainment system, but wasn't sure how it would look or work. How do you like the Kenwood? Is that the one with the touch screen? What do you have connected to it. I haven't decide for sure on the Alpine. I'm also looking at the Kenwood and Pioneer. Only thing is that Kenwood has no nav system. They told me there was one in the works, but that was about 8 months ago, and nothing yet...

Hey guys...I'll get my pics posted up within the next few days! As for the Kenwood..I'm really liking it so far it has a great picture. It is the touch screen model V907 or something like that with the built in CD and TV tuner to watch regular TV stations. I looked at the Alpine and Pioneer also. I would for sure not go with the Pioneer unless you plan on spending $2500++ or so because you have to buy a couple different seperate units. The only advantage i see with going with a Alpine is a little bit larger screen(but not much) and it is fully motorized( it comes out and up) where as the Kenwood comes out but you have to fold it up, but it also rotates side to side whereas the Alpine doesn't. But thats about it! I have my Playststion mounted in the center console amd i have a DVD player hooked up underneath my rear seats. I talked to a friend that works at Kenwood and he said they they do have a navigation/DVD player coming out and it will be available sometime in March. The cool thing about that system is that the navigation is fully touch screen...you just touch where you want to go and it takes you there...

How does the nav system in the Alpine compare to say a Garman III?

aldive,
I have no clue how it compares! I don't know much about the navigation systems i just know about the TV's themselves! You would have to ask someone else.
