I have a 1991 explorer sport with two 12's and a 800 watt amp. My light's dim like crazy and i was wondering if what i should do to make them stop. Should i rewind my alternator and get a cap or should i just get a whole new alternator its self? Thanks for any help.

If that is your only concern, then just go to a car audio shop and ask them for a small capacitor for your headlights. If you find that the bass is lacking, like the amp is running out of juice in the middle of a heavy bass note, then think about the other things.

Hi Nate I also have 2 12" XLC's and a G800a2...the exact same stuff as you except my amp is the 2 channel version. I had some dimming of lights but after adding a Lightning Audio 1 Fared Energy Capacitor the dimming is 99% gone. I'm not sure what kind of output your alternator has, but mine is a 90 amp alternator and if yours is smaller you may still have problems, i'm not sure. I do have a great idea for you though...First buy a 1 fared capacitor and if that doesnt help to your satisfaction then look into purchasing an Optima Interstate battery and I guarantee that'll take care of the problem. An optima battery costs about $120-150 and a 1 fared capacitor will cost maybe $100-140 depending of where you go. If you have the money, do both. An energy capacitors purpose is to release energy when the supply coming from your battery becomes too low to make the amplifier function to its full potential and a better battery will obviously provide that much more juice. By adding both you will notice a great increase in sound intensity, and sound quality. As far as your alternator forget about it because they cost alot and are only a last resort if a battery and cap dont work...which with your amp they will, perhaps a cap will even be enough...as i said earlier it was for me. In case you were wondering i'm hitting 147.8 dB on an AudioControl IASCA style mic. I'm very proud of my rockford stuff and I hope you feel the same way. Hope I've helped.

I have a few things to say sense Nates my friend and i helped him with his system and apperently know more then you bass_architect.

1st off bass_architect. Your a liar and most Ford guys hate that so if your going to be a poser like that sell your explorer to someone that actualy would be proud to have it. Second there is NO WAY IN HELL! that you can hit 147.8 with rockford XLC 12's I'm sorry it just ain't possible with 2 12's and around 900 watts. (you'd be lucky to hit 145 outlaw with that set up.) We already know that a battery won't help he has done that and we knew that it wouldn't help his problems like that. All a battery does is let you run you stereo without a the car on. We wanted to know if a cap would help and if a alternator would be all he needed. So stop making up crap and get a real life!
