The Transmission A4LD on my 93 EX sometimes acts up when i'm in OverDrive. it clunks in and out of gear some times when it shouldn't, but never in regular Drive. The fluid is fine and the tranny was rebuilt 45k ago, ive read that the ALTERNATOR controls the OD Gear, but could I just replace the Regulator on the ALternator instead of the whole thing?

An article from the RANGER STATION websight says "The A4LD was the first Ford transmission to use an EEC-controlled torque converter lock-up clutch and later became the first to use electronic shift control (via a 3-4 shift solenoid). The French-built A4LD was created by adding overdrive to the front of the C-3 three-speed unit. The A4ld has a 2.47 first gear and a 0.75 overdrive."

Where does it say anything about your alternator controlling your transmission?

mmmm yeah ..... i guess my thinking that the rear defroster controled the tempreture in the truck was misguided as well...oh well... lol ! but i have to agree with the others ...the alternater does not control the transmission, yes it supplies power the the electrical system which inturn powers various sub systems ( like transmission shift solinoids ) but thats all it does.it sends nothing else (like signals to say shift now) ...only voltage to the battery.
