i found out that the motor was not in fact hydrolocked. it was a stupid busted positive side battery terminal. once i got that fixed, i drove the truck to work. on the way home, i noticed that my voltage was a bit low and the dummy light came on. i stopped by the local parts house and had them run a quick test. the results were that the alternator was had a low output. while performing the test, i noticed that there was coolant running down and pooling under the truck. upon closer inspection, i realized that the water pump had failed and was gushing coolant out of the weep hole. nice.
i bought a new water pump. i also asked for a new alternator. he had 4 different ones. a rebuilt and a new in 90 and 130 amp each. i originally bought the rebuilt 90 amp. when i got home, i got it all bolted on and hooked up. when i went to reconnect the battery, the terminal started arching and sparking and melting itself to the post. i took it back and demanded that i get the new (not rebuilt) 130 amp. no problems with the install on that one.
my question is;
what is the correct amperage... 90 or 130?
