I have a set of the Carbon Fiber Altezza tail lights on my X the I got from ProCarParts.com . On the drivers side light, the lower red plastic "dome" has come loose and is melted on one side. Also, it looks like on both sides the clear red plastic has bubbles in it where it's melting. I still have the factory bulbs in, so they're not high wattage. anyone else have this problem?

Two negative posts about ProCarParts in one day, coincidence, I THINK NOT!

Everybody, for your sake, avoid them.

"does the I TOLD YOU SO dance"

HA! I knew I wasn't crazy.....

DocVijay: It's the product not you, you better call them, email them, whatever you have to do to get your money back. Hurry before it's too late to do a charge back w/ your credit card company.

PROCARPARTS.COM sells defective products and has the worse customer service ever.

Altezza's Leak

My Altezza's leaked and looked like crap for a while and it took me FOREVER before i finally sealed them up... now they look good but damn i wouldnt buy from them again either

Electrical tape worked great for me, just wrap it around the junction between bulb and taillight as well as that little "air hole" above the turn signal.

Well I figured since my Altezzas were ruined I would experiment to find a solution for us all. Not only did I silicone the one completly around but seal the part where they screw in with duck tape.....they still got cloudy..

come on guys lets get our thinking caps on.
I have a feeling that no matter what kind of after market tails they come out with for us they are going to do this so we might as well find a way to fix it.

Here's what I would do:

Before I even put them on, I would thoroughly silicon them. Then, I would seal all the holes that are supposed to be there (ie where the bulbs go) and dunk them in the bathtub to look for bubbles. Obviously, if you saw bubbles or water in the things, wait for it to dry and try to find out where the hole is. A pin-hole is all it takes for condensation to form.

Trial and error, I guess that's what it comes down to.

That is a good idea
when i had to rinse out mineral deposits that were leftin them I filled them with water and watched for any leaks.
nothing showed but I guess its just a pin hole

dude im doing that in my bath tub

nice idea

Hey, it's a little extreme, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. ;)

Followup: Since siliconing around the seal completly and taping around where the bulbs screw in I get slight fogging right after a carwash but it goes away within hours and everything is fine now. No leaking like before......I think this is the best yet. But now I think I want carbon fiber tails. This 50+ mail carrier at my job asked if that was my truck in the parking lot w/ the clear taillights...when I said yes he was impressed I was customizing it. Then he went on to say.....yeah, what do they call that....ric....rice...ricing it out..that's it.....just like those Toyotas and Hondas.....

He is very sweet and had no clue the total comment offended me.

I think I will get carbon fibers.......:fire:

Yeah carbon fiber ones would look sweet.

BTW Sara have you heard, 95-97 Altezzas in DEVELOPMENT! YAY!

Sarah: got any pics of what you did to them, i would like to do the same. and dont ya love it when people make nice comments about your ride like: i cant beleive you did that to an explorer, thats the coolest explorer ive seen. people not from the site i mean.

Not right now but I can snap some tomorrow, everyone knows I love taking pics. Heres a close up of the tails looking nice and clear like they should.
If you have a good eye you can barely see the silicon on the left side of the seal, less noticable then the water hehehehe.

They're in development, they're not being made yet.
