Hey guys, new member here. I joined a Jeep Wrangler forum before purchasing my 2012 Wrangler and it was so helpful in making sure I made the right moves with that deal that I was hoping this forum would provide the same help!

I'm currently pricing out a new 2013 Explorer Limited with the 302A package, 4WD V6, dual sunroof, and we're going to have the dealership install DVD headrests.

Before the DVD headrests, the sticker on this Explorer is $45,750. I worked them down to $39,889 and they're going to do the DVD players for $1,600 vs the $1,995 they normally charge.

I also got them to quote me out for my "out of the door" cost that would include title, tax, tages, fees, etc and the total came to $42,669.

Does that sound like a fair cost? I've checked the true market value sites and it appears they were showing fair value at $44K, but I wanted to see if anyone here could let me know if this was a good deal.

thanks!

Welcome to the Forum bdillard6.:wavey:
Not being in the U.S. I'm not that familiar with all the 'extra' costs they may add on. I always maintain that a good price is one you are happy with. A good price for one may not necessarily equate to a good price for another.
Keep in mind that the 2014 models will start production on June 3rd so dealers will be attempting to clear their lots of the 2013's. Your question has come up on several occasions on this Forum. I did a quick 'search' and here are a couple of threads you may want to check out.
Good luck.

Do you happen to be a Costco member? I think there is a $1000 rebate for members but I believe you had to be a member for 2 months before the date you buy the vehicle. The Ford website usually shows what promotions are in effect in your area.

That price seems really good. I can't get one to price out anywhere near that MSRP though so I'm wondering if something is off here.

Limited, 302A,4WD, and Dual moonroof tells me 49k ish

thanks for the response! I'll check the other threads you listed and see if I'm in a comparable range! I agree that as long as you're good with the price, its a good deal, but I want to make sure I'm not leaving anything on the table as I have an expanding family - hence the upgrade. My wife is turning in her Mustang GT (crying in my sleeve) and I'm turning in my older explorer so we should also be able to put down maybe $15K or so after our trade ins. I'll look at those other threads though!

Price seems pretty good. Skip the DVD's and buy 2 iPads.

I built a 2013 Ltd and added just the moonroof and the price came to $48,190 but there appears to be something wrong with this. The base price is $44,595. Adding a $1595 dual panel moonroof sees the price jump by $3595 to $48,190 when it should only have gone up to $46,190. Why did it add the extra $2000?
ON our Canadian site the only increase to the CDN base price of $49,027 is the actual $1750 of our moonroof cost.

Crystal, could you find out why a $1595 moonroof adds $3595 to the vehicle price?

Price is great, if they have a lot of them with your choices/option pkg, fight a bit more if they seem to be taking it and really do want their lots cleared.

Seriously review seatback iPad holders.
(find full length kick mats with top area a holder, ...then tell us here lol...)

I dont recommend giving kids iPads in their hands in the car - its WAY too close due to the way it must be held to view it or type on it, and can quickly cause them to get car sick depending on what they are watching/playing.

If they get car sick, ...guess what?

I was trying to build it on USAA as that is where I got my price and was very good. Base priced for the LTD 4wd says 40,100, then the 402A + moon roof say 8055, plus 895 destination. That would give me MSRP of ~49000. That just seems very high to me.

That would give you a price from USAA at 43,127 w/ the 2000 rebate, you could easily get another 750 off. and maybe haggle down another 500. That gets it down to 41,877. That would seem more in line with best price pre DVD of course. But if you are getting better than that GREAT on you!!!

I used this service for my Sport, $44,342.98 (sport, 402a, adaptive cruise, tow package). 2750 in incentives, which is 41592.98. OTD at 43563.32
I only put it out there to try and help others get as good or better of a deal!

I'd given thought to the iPad idea but my issues there are that my son knows he has games on the ipad as well as movies so I dont know if he'd be content just watching a movie on it. I have this image in my head of him watching 10 min of a movie and then wanting to play a game for 10 minutes and then a movie and so on. with the DVD players...he knows they're just movies and he already is used to just watching movies there since we currently are using some cheapo portable dvd headrest players. big issue there though is all the corded mess and what not so we were looking for something that would eliminate the cords and hassle of the portable players. that at least is a dealer installed option so we can still think about that and do that at any time really. the nice thing about doing it up front is that it would be included in our purchase price and financed for 5 years which is also less than buying ipads out of pocket ;-) good suggestions though and much appreciated.

as for the pricing, I see basically the same when I build that out online. I'm assuming that the sticker price is actually about 47K but they're taking out the 2K ford rebate and showing that cost on cars.com. so I'm also assuming then that they're getting to the $39K cost but getting rid of their holdback and things like that. its a volume dealer I'm working with so as I understand it, they're more focused on selling a number of cars vs the actual costs of the cars (to an extent). they get their bonuses based on the volume they sell.

I also looked at true car and it showed that 43K would be the very low end of what customers are paying and would be a solid deal so at 42K i feel pretty good.

hey so I was actually wrong about the packages - its a limited, 4wd, 310A - i'd thought it was 302A because of the Blind spot monitoring and inflatable seat belts but they have just added on that package for $595 instead of the full 302A package.

so now I'm not sure how great of a deal it is - i'm a USAA member as well and their car buying price shows me $41,191 which is about $1K less than the dealer quoted me before title tax proc fees etc. So in this care, I'll be better off going with USAAs price or seeing if I can bring them down further.

I'd say talk to their internet sales person, they were able to offer $500 below USAA's price for me. You should really try to get the $750 marketing offer as well if you haven't already. Just go online to Ford and request a brochure, the only problem is that it takes a few weeks. :(

does this work if i download a PDF brochure? or is it mail only?

It was not part of the downloaded brochure, it's an email and or mailer you'd get after a few weeks.

As someone who bought the OEM Ford Invision DVD system for my 13 Limited I would like to save you some money.

Go check out www.autospatech.com (I have no association to them)

$1100 shipped to your door, dealer should charge you $100 to install.

Audiovox ADVENT 7" DVD headrest system is better quality and they are a Ford approved accessory.

I bought a set for my wife's 13 Acadia Denali so I have daily comparison evidence.

I added game pack for extra $50, kids love them.

thanks Sgt1411! I'll look into these!
