i currently have 1 12inch alpine sub a 1500 watt amp installed in my explorer when it was 1st installed it was fine recently i was messing with the radio and one of the hot wires touched ground and now when the system is turned up loud it cuts off for a few seconds and comes back on. and my battery seems to die. i went and got a new battery and didnt drive for 3 daysd i go to start it now itwont start. im thinking maybe it was too much on the alternator. does anyone have any ideas what type or size high voltage one to get or other things to have a powerful constant power going. i plan on putting another 12 speaker in and maybe upgrading my amp to 2600watts. i also have a farad cap. imnot sure what the alternator that comes with the explorer is already i have a 1995 explorer xlt with preminum. i need to know of alternator thats high volt and not expensive and anything else that will fix this problem to have a powerful system and not drain my battery. or is this even the problem being it didnt start doing this or i didnt notice until that wire sparker

What amp do you have?? I have about 1500W RMS on my X and dont have any problems.

if you are having problems with that 400 watt amp than you need to upgrade your big three to 0 gauge...you will notice a BIG improvement...also ditch the cap...it isn't doing anything at all.

My voltage used to drop bad with even a 500 watt rms amp...after upgrading the big five on my truck it handles 1500 REAL watts rms fine.

The ratings on cheap amps like what you have are wayyy wayyy overinflated.

Not sure if this applies here but I used to do a lot with house systems, and on all the newer amps they have a circuit breaker built in so if there is a short it will cut off for a few seconds(but only when turned up loud), check for short circuits. it may be the same thing here.

As you probably has guessed the pyramid amp is a P.O.S and it does no where close to 1500 watts. 400 was a good guess. The fact that you "sparked" a wire of something is troubling. Sounds like you did some damage somewhere and probably to you so called amp. You also maybe running your system too loud and its cutting out because its overheating. Cheaper the amp, cheaper the protection.

Oh, and adding another sub (hopefully you ment another exact same Alpine) to this amp will not "upgrade" it to a 2600 watt amp. It will most likely cause your Explorer to go up in flames. Seriously, just by a decent amp for the sub you have. Stay away from flee market brands. They just cause problems. There are no short cuts in car audio.

Lastly, read the previous posted website. There is a lot of info you need to learn.

well i guess i learned the hard way. any suggestions on a good amp for the alpine speakers and what a good wattage for 2 1500 watt speakers and should i get a 2 channel amp? i upgraded to a 130 watt alternator today and i guess i didnt let it charge long enough because the battery still isnt charging..btw i only left it on 10 mins after i jumped it maybe it wasnt on long enuff
