Lately I have been having some problems w/ my system. 1st off, I have no idea where to set my amp at. I turned up the bass boost and now if I open up the rear hatch and listen to my subs it sounds like they're buzzing/rattling. When i sit up front I don't notice the buzzing. Should I turn down the amp? Is that distortion from the subs or is that how they hit? Also All of a sudden I have noticed a buzzing from under both rear panels. Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? Thanks Alot!

its pretty much a guaruntee that subs will make a buzzing or rattling sound from numerous locations. You could dynomat the whole truck which will most likely eliminate most of the vibrations. Or you could do what i did: unplug the speaker harness so only your subs are working, then put on a song that "bumps," then listen around for where the noises are coming from. Then do whatever it takes to stop it. In my truck basically every panel rattles, along with other things like the center console and the plastic covers over the tops of the seatbelts. I used weather stipping or old cloth as padding to absorb the vibrations or to stop any two things from rattling together.
Getting the outer body panels to stop rattling is another story. I didnt bother with that, as long as it sounds good on the inside i was ok.

Yes you could always turn down the amp or sub output on the HU. Of course the less bass the less things will vibrate and rattle.

About where to put the amp. it doesnt really matter, where ever you want it to go. I have mine bolted to the back of the box so it doesnt take up space, or so its not noticeable and wont temp someone to steal it. Alot of people bolt it to some side of the box, some put it underneath the rear seat, then theres those who just put it on the floor next to the subs. its just a matter of personal preference.

Hope this helps,
Sean

Ok thans but I also have a question about the subs themselves. They seem to make a buzzing noise, kinda like if you put your hand up to the cone while there hitting, but it makes this sound all the time. Is this distortion of the subs? Should I cut back the amp gain? Or is this just how the sub hits? lemme know! Thanx

it could be the subs....
it could be your custom built box....
if theres one screw loose or one seal thats not completey tight, or pretty much anything that isnt completely solid could potentially make a buzzing sound when the subs hit.

I just have the trebble turned up alot more than the base so i cant hear any of the buzzings or rattlings.

Later,
Sean

I've checked everything and it's deff. coming fromt he subs when I turn the amp up. I think its distortion so I just cut back the amp gain and now its better, but for future reference can some one set me straight on what this buzzing was? Was it distortion? Thanks

thats not distortion...thats most likely interference... i cant spell

if u have the RCAs and power wires running near each other that can make a noise or if ur wires arent in all the way or i think to small a wire....u should run 12GA wire from ur amp to ur subs and they should be firmly inplace on the amp and box and box to subs check all that

is it both subs making the noise?

All the connections are goo dand I am currently using 12ga. speaker wire. oth subs do it only when I turn up the gain or bass boost on the amp. Thanks for all your replies
