I bought a new stereo for my '94. During installation, I noticed 5V going to the factory amp (which I didn't know existed). I only have a 10V output from the new stereo. Will this blow the factory amp??

Most likely not, it should say up to 10V output.

I agree on eliminating the factory amp. I did it over the weekend and was suprised how crappy that amp actually is!
Pain to get to and splice but worth the effort.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and bypassed the amp. Even ran new wire from the stereo to the amp output wires. System sounds great!!

Factory Amps

Where are the factory amps in a 1999 ford explorer sport. i want to bypass them to my amp

They are in the side panel, passenger side, in the cargo area. Its the panel that either has a speaker grille for the subwoofer or a little cargo pocket thingy. You will need to remove all the trim clip thingys and the rear seatbelt bolt, then it should come right off. Good luck man!

does this mean that basically i have to take off the entire side panel from front to bak?

I think 1999 has the amp built into the factory radio as opposed to an external amp.

i know this has nothing to do with this section, but can u have 3 amps running 2 subs??

Why would you want to use three amps for two subs?

Howabout using 2 amps for 3 subs???... hehe. No i dont see using 3 amps for 2 subs.

i dunno

is it possible to run the speakers in the doors factory or aftermarket to an amp that i have. if the truck has a facotry amp, would installing my amp sum how screw it up??

You would have to bypass the factory amp...which if you have a aftermarket HU is always a good idea. You need a 50T (Torque rench) to take off that back plastic piece that covers the amp. Good luck!

does anyone know how to remove the speaker covers in the front in the doors? in the 99 explorer sport?

They don't come off... You have to remove the whole door panel.
