Would anyone have any input on where to mount amps (2) in a '91 2Dr Explorer so as not to be obious, visible, or taking up precious cargo room? Any input would be great, Thanks.

real easy i have done it many times and you will never see the amp again. in the back passanger side take off the piece where the storage bin is. there is pleanty of room to mount the amps when you are done put that whole piece back on

I mounted mine on the back of the seat. They're inbetween the seat the the flap so you can't see them. All you need to do is build a small box around them and it's totally unrecognizable.

Sorry Godfather the 2dr does not have that flap like the four Door So that would not work.. But it is a great idea if I ever do that to my Moms Explorer...

I had to find a place to mount my 350watt Sony and 400 watt (rms) 'el-cheapo amps.. They are both about 12" long and 8" wide.. I finally decided on a false floor in the back.. I made a box that has 2 main compartments.. the first compartment is my tool box area.. (keeps all my tools out of the way) and the other compartment has the amps.. I made the compartment at the rear of the explorer the tool box and the one at the other end was the amps.. I made it so I had 2 seperate lids.. I was worried about heat from the 750 watts worth of power.. so I made a chanel that ran from rear of the box into the front (amp) compartment. I then put a few fans in the box to blow air over the amps and 2 fans to pull the air out of the box. I can run the amp at high volume in 110 degree weather and it never over heats.. I'll take some pictures of my setup so it will make more sense.. I'm looking at making another one soon... I want to make it taller (deeper).. Right now it is the same height as the wheel wells.. If I increse the height I can make the false floor cover the entire back area (but leave an opening for the bottom of the sub and the stock jack location). I found auto carpeting that matches my Blue interior(sp?) perfectly... Ok.. enough rambling..

I have a '91 sport and mounted one amp above each wheel well. I made panels and flush mounted the amps so all you can see is the heatsinks. Doesn't take away cargo area. But the downside is you can't access the jack and jack handle. But, I don't need them cause I can't use them. My truck is liftd with 36" tires.

I mounted my (2) amps inside the rear seats on my 2-door. There's plenty of room for large amps, no cargo space is wasted and they're not visible even without the cargo cover. Pics provided in post below...

Hey Maniak and CHH777,

Could yall send some pics of your setups. My Addy is Arch-Willy@usa.net

Yall seem to have some really good ideas.
thanks

Check out http://mark.legendz.com/explorer/stereo1.html for a pictorial of my amp/sub configuration.

I hope this works for you.. I love this configuration. People can't tell where the Amps are even when I ask them to see if they can find them. Once they see the fans they get an idea of where it is.. but from the outside you can't tell.

Obviously a more "professional" job could have been done (hinged Plexiglass panels with locks, neon lights, strobes, mirrored disco ball, etc.) but I'm not into all that. I just wanted to get the amps off the back of the seats.

Sorry for the crappy picture quality...
