Howdy folks, I have a problem that seems to be pretty common to Rangers. It started about a year ago after I flushed the cooling system...started to get fluctuating temperature readings on the gauge. It would rise up to just above normal temp, then plummet to the "C" quickly, and then slowly over the course of a few minutes rise back and then drop again. It sucked all the coolant from the rez and I kept refilling it for a couple of weeks, and finally it returned to normal. I suspect that it had air in the system. Yesterday, I replaced thermostat, water pump, radiator cap and refilled with 50/50. I barely get a reading on my temp gauge although if I rev it it rises about halfway and then drops back to "C". My heater will blow warm air for about 30 seconds and then cool off to just above ambient. I've tried all the tricks I know to burp air from the system...leaving the cap off to allow air to escape and refilling, parking on a steep incline and doing the same, jumping up and down on the bumper with the engine running and radiator cap off...still no luck. The 'stat is cycling properly it seems, I can watch the flow through the open radiator and my temp reading at the cap is about 150. Is there a definitive foolproof way to get air out of the cooling system. It's driving me ape@%#!@ and I also have a road trip to a remote area planned for next week and I'd like to get this resolved before then. Thanks in advance!
