2003 Eddie Bauer
Hi all,

Airbag light started flashing on the 2003 Eddie Bauer, possibly right after adjusting the position of the passenger seat (maybe related?). The code is 19. After searching the site, haven't found any info on this particular code. Anyone know what it means? Thanks in advance.

When you say a code of 19, I am assuming you mean a Light Flash Code ( LFC ). That being the case, the following may help you:

LFC 19/DTC B1231 - RCM Crash Data Memory Full

Normal Operation

WARNING:

The Restraints Control Module (RCM) orientation is critical for correct system operation. If a vehicle equipped with an air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) has been involved in a collision in which the right cowl A-pillar area has been damaged, inspect the mounting and bracket for deformation. If damaged, the RCM must be replaced whether or not the air bags have deployed. In addition, make sure the area of the RCM mounting is restored to its original condition.
A new RCM must be installed if the air bag modules have deployed.
Clearing DTC B1231 will potentially remove all record of the crash event.
When the air bags are deployed during a collision, the Restraints Control Module (RCM) will flash a Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 19 on the air bag indicator and store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1231 in memory. The LFC 19 and DTC B1231 indicate that a crash has been recorded by the RCM.

Possible Causes
Crash data memory full is caused by a crash event that deployed the air bags.

Good luck ........

Thanks for the info Al. My vehicle was involved in a collision that blew the airbags at 10,000 km. The airbags and module were replaced. The vehicle was fine (i.e. no airbag codes) until the code started flashing after moving the seat. The vehicle now has 35,000 km. Seems strange that this code should start flashing now, 25000 km and 2 years after the fact????

Finally took the truck into the stealership to properly diagnose the problem. In case anyone else has a similar problem, light flash code 19 means that there is an incomplete circuit between the airbag module and the drivers side airbag. Source of the problem was a bad clockspring. Replaced it and the flashing light has been gone for the past couple weeks.

I have a 2002 Eddie Bauer with 73k mi on it (warranty just ran out) that started flashing the yellow airbag light today, then the light came on and stayed on. I had a lot of stops today, and it was always the same: first 2-5 minutes, no problem; minutes 5-7 flashing airbag light; minute 7 on light satys lit.

Continued...
I put my OBD II on it, but it showed no codes. I stopped into a dealer and was told that I should not drive it another inch as it was too dangerous with that light on(?!!?!), and that they would have to charge me $75 to put it on THEIR scanner. I left, but I want to know what is causing it, and how to fix it. Thanks!

i had a similar issue..... the air bag light came on and it had to do with a sensor in my seatbelt. warranty covered that @ 44k on my '03.

My airbag light just went on in my 02 XLT. I turned the engine off and on over the course of the day and the light went out and has not come back. Should I be worried or should I just forget about it?

If it does it again I'll check the code. That is a useful site btw. Thanks.

So - it started flashing again, a "33". Reviewing the forum this appears to be a :
Light Flashing Code (LFC) 33 (Driver seat pretensioner fault) OR LFC 34 (Passenger seat pretensioner fault).

I need to do more research but the first thing to check are the condition of the connections beneath the drivers side seat?

I played around with the connectors beneath the driver side seat and the code has disappeared.

The veryuseful.com website show Mustang related coded. Are they the same for our Explorers?

Thanks!

Hello,
I suddenly had the air bag light flashing and later staying on. The code is 34 which I understand from the post is 34 Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Low Resistance or Shorted.
-I tried to see from under the drivers seat the connector, but is not easily visible or reachable. I'll try again and see if I can move it or re-connect or something.
-The truck is going for an oil change on Sunday. Will find out from the garage how much it costs-maybe it is just the resistance/fuse that needs change.

Any help/input would be appreciated.
Will let you know the cost.

Wonder if it would be okay to leave the light alone as the seat belts seems to be working fine.

Thanks! I fiddled around with the connector under the passenger seat (code 34 is passenger side) and the air bag light went away. Seems like a loose connection and hopefully it is fixed. Has not shown up in the past 1 day.
Thanks to the information on this forum that pointed in the RIGHT direction!
