Today when I was out giving my X a good look over I noticed the belt tensioner moving a bit when running. It's like a slight hopping to the left and right. Is this normal? The tensioner seems to be holding tension on the belt, it's just moving around a bit. I just replaced the belt and a bad idler pully about 2 months ago and it seemed O.K.

Anybody notice their tensioner doing something similar?

I just went out and looked at mine, and it does the same thing. It moves back and forth around the pivot point of the tensioner as the belt goes around the pulleys. I would say the pulley moves back and forth about 1/16 of an inch or less.

I also noticed that it jumps when the ac clutch kicks on or off.

I think that it is normal.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure. :)

I noticed it as well, then one morning it got louder until I stopped the Exp. and opened the hood, and the darn thing popped straight up into the air. The bearings had gone and it spun itself off. Thank god my wife was not on the highway as all power controls were lost.
