Been having the issues with noise coming from the timing chains or something related to this issue. One local mechanic peaked at it and said he thought it was the timing chains, and it would be almost a $1500 fix. After doing some research i came across the 00M12 fix, seeing that the SOHC is notorious for the noise, rough idling, and of course running lean.

My systems lean on banks 1 & 2, i've changed the IAC valve, MAF sensor, and so on...

How much as of today (alot of the topics were out dated), would the 00M12 run me? I need to get up with the local dealership to find out about it tomorrow since the parts dept. is closed over the weekend.

Yeah mine has 251K+ on the original motor, but for one thats low on cash, you take the fix you can afford. And i really can't afford to drop a new motor in it, especially if all it needs is the kit. For those who'd like to listen in, i have a low quality video of the motor noise on youtube, just say the word and i'll post the link.

Help is very much appreciated!

Is the rattle on startup or at the 2 to 3k rpm range?

the 00m12 kit is for the startup rattle only, and the vacuum leak in the upper intake which causes rough idle and lean condition.

If you have the constant rattle in the 2 to 3k RPM range then that will require the new timing chain guides and tensioners for the front and rear chains. There are many threads on the fix.

Mine rattles ALL the time, startup to plain driving. Between 2K-3K you can hear the timing chain guides and tensioner issues. But mine does this all the time, including being a pain to start first thing in the morning. And yeah, mine also has the lean condition that after many times of trial and error replacement, has yet to disappear.

Heh and as for the timing chain guides and tensioners...i heard theres really no cheap fix for it so thats a problem for me. But yeah i've looked at the threads before, this site usually gives me an idea of whats wrong with my truck when i need to find out.

I appreciate the help manaen. I called my local ford dealership and the 00M12 is between $60-65 with tax. So hopefully this will fix my startup issues and the lean condition. I'll get to the guides and tensioners later, but i thought the kit came with one Cam tensioner in it?

Honestly with all the miles on this one, i'm tempted to use it til it dies. Then just buy a crate V6 from Ford.

well the oom12 should take care of the @ idle cold start issues.

Yeah mine has 251K+ on the original motor

WOW. I hope mine goes that long! 134K and counting. A little rattle on startup, but it's been like that since day 1, even after the recall, didn't change.
