Hello all,
my question is that i have heard that if you upgrade to a new HU then the output to the speakers will still be only 15w because of the way the factory amp was wired. if i want to get the full 45w of my new HU then what is the thing i need to buy to bypass the amp?

45 watts is only the max of your headunit, not the rms

the factory amp is located in the rear cargo area. it is behind the plastic panel on the passenger side.
the easiest way to bypass the amp, is to get a bypass harness. it's just plug and play. if you dont want to spend the $10 on a harness, then you have to unplug the wires from the amp and do a lot of cutting and splicing (after you figure out which wires do what).

order a harness from crutchfield, or go to circuit city and pick one up. it will be much easier.

Do not believe that rating. The max in most headunits is 15 watts RMS. The 45 watt rating is the When Lighting Strikes It Rating as I call it.
Bypass the favtory amp to get the best sound quality

I knew that 45w was the max but someone once told me that the factory hu only sent the signal out to the amp and then the amp powered it to 15w max. i know this is true, but to get best quality like brian said, i should just bypass the amp right? how much better do you think it will sound?
thx for your help

it will sound much better. it will play much louder without distortion. i waited about a week to bypass my factory amp. if i would've known the difference, i would've done it immediately.

alright guys, thanks for your help
