hey everyone just wondering if these rims would fit my explorer having the correct offset i dont mind if the rims standout away from the hub like outward from the fenders, but i dont want them to sit too far inside the fenders and require huge spacers. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/pts/875660580.html

18x8.5 with 50mm offset and 6.87" backspacing, also a reccomendation on tire size. I was thinking of getting these rims, and painting the silver in the middle of the spokes a gloss black i think it would look very decent and standout.

I would have to say No that offset is too much, yours would be closer to 12+ I beleive. And that is 50, Less is more. I see issues with rubbing. if I remember its 5X4.5" or 5X114.3mm. but you will notice those rims dont have much of a lip.
what Im trying to say is they would stick in too far. You could use a 1994-2004 style mustang wheel I beleive and use a spacer or get the right offset. You want a low offset

Yep, 0 offset rims sit just nicely on a 3rd gen ex. The standard offset is 38, so 50 is way too far in and will foul on suspension components. -12 offset sticks out about half an inch. I have 16x7 with +44 offset, and using 38mm spacers, so I'm at around +6 offset and the edge of the tyre is just equal with the edge of the guard - looks good IMO. My standard factory 17 x 7.5s run +38 offset, so with the spacers should still sit nice an even.

ok so do you think if i got 1" wheel spacers the 50mm offset would be useable? or would i still be lacking the desired look? 1" is about 25mm so that would make the offset of the rim/spacer combo to be +25 mm...would this be correct? so inch and a half wheel spacers would add 38mm of negative offset to the combination, putting it at 12mm+ offset. i hope i am understanding this correctly, wheels are extremely confusing ive already bough a set of cobras that for some ungodly reason didnt fit at all so i had to resell them :(. All the aftermarket rims seem to just be too in your face, im looking for something factory looking, but i want an agressive stance out of the vehicle, im also trying to stay away from larger diameter rims like 20's or 22's as the streets and freeways would destroy a rim like that around here!

any ideas on rim choice? similar to the once in the op link?

I had 22" on my mounty and they were fine. I had 40 series tires. You could easily run a 20 inch rim with plenty of tire. Check out rims for Charger/Chrysler 300
they will fit the same. Dont use a Huge Spacer. Just find a rim with the right offset.

oh it soundslike the charger/300c are 5x115 :| but have a similar offset to the explorer...

anyways bump for some ideas, anything like the ford motorsport rims? something aside from bullits or cobra's ?

Mustang wheels work great on Explorers and look great. Fitment is perfect. I have done this for my `99 and also for my `02. You can usually find Mustang dealer take-offs at really good prices on eBay at a great price. (I most recently found a like-new set of 16X7" Mustang alloy wheels with shipping for $190!) Compare that with Explorer wheels going for $100+ each!!!

Go for it!

i just cannot make my mind up and commit to buying a set of wheels and tires :| i wish i could "try" like 10 sets on until i find the right ones :(
