I've been trying to figure this out by searching and reading, but cannot find much. First off I have a 1996 4.0 OHV (hence the title). I'll list the things I've done to try and fix it/ My problems.
Symptoms:
- Hot Smelling from front passenger side (At least I can smell it there most)
- CEL - Bank 1 Sensor 1 lean
- Diminished MPG (it is winter though)
-Feels underpowered (even for the OHV
)
- Oil gets dirty at around 1500 - 2000 miles.
(I use Valvoline Max life synthetic blend W/ Fram Filter)
- Temp doesn't go past more then 1/3.
- Goes through alittle Oil
Things I've done
-Replaced upper intake Gasket
-Checked for Vacuum leaks (With Sray bottle and water)
-Seafoamed it through brake booster hose
-That's it (it seems as though I've done more...)
The "Hot" Smell
This started this summer. I did take it to the sand dunes and accidently hit the pass side wheel and popped the bead off. It was on a rim of a Water hole. Could possibly be a Hub. It happens all the time. I noticed it more in the winter though. Is there any thing in the Engine area that I can look for to signal the common Cracked head or anything engine related.
This is has just been bothering me. The smell and Oil is what is making me worry. I've been waiting to do the Fuel filter for spring because I hate being wet, cold, and miserable while working on such a thing as that. The Heat is what is bothering me the most.
I'm pretty new to the engine world, Changing the intake gasket was HUGE for me. I was amazed I did it with minimal (except for that stupid EGR Valve) work. So, please adorn me with your wisdom.
