Another trans dummy

Alright guys I have an 04 4.0 explorer that's giving me hell
Last time the truck was driven I lost reverse no noises no clunk just gone.
So I park it and never look back .
I finally have time to look at it and can't come up with anything.
Fluid is full
All forward gears are present and shifts fine , I even have manual 1&2
Is it possible that it's just a shift solenoid or something I'm missing .
I'm clueless on transmissions and could really use the help .
Also I haven't exactly identified the trans either so how do I do that lol

It might have a broken shift fork in the transfer case. Test the 4WD system.

But wouldn't that effect the forward gears also . My only problem is reverse

This issue usually affects reverse since the shift fork will lift. Put the truck on ramps, set the emergency brake, remove the transfer case, then have somebody watch the output shaft while you shift into reverse with your foot on the brake pedal.

I'll give it a shot probably won't be able to touch it till Sunday but at this point I'm desperate.
We're racking up the miles on my 93 sho mtx lol
