What is the function of the weight or counterbalance thing on the rear axle of Gen. 3's? I remember reading something about it B4 I became an X owner, but cant remember where I saw it now. Thanks for your help!

Hey Doug!
I get a kind of 'harmonic' (good description) vibration at 45-50 mph when in O.D. and 1500 RPM...Sound normal to you? I thought it might be the trans slipping, and had it in for repairs. ($1800-warranty) It still does the same thing (?) Im new to explorers. I love the truck, just have the Ford tranny scare.
It's hard to say what the problem is exaclty. Could be you lost a wheel weight, bad tire, damaged rim. It's possible for the driveshafts to vibrate but unlikely. could be the transmission or motor. sometimes vibrations like that can be really hard to track down and isolate.
Yeah, I hear ya! It only has 9K on it so it's really puzzling. It isnt terrible or unbearable by no means, just noticeable. My wife says she cant hear it, so it may just be one of those "seat of the pants" things. Thanks for the info.
