Antenna swapping from original 'pig tail' to 'shark fin'

For the 2018 Ford Explorer Platinum, did anyone have the experience of swapping the 'pig tail' antenna to the 'shark fin' type yet? Did you lose the good reception for the radio as they said? For the GPS, I now connect and use 'Google map'. Can you 'do it yourself?' Please advise.
