Alright people, ive read a ton of stuff on the anti theft, but only how to check if you have it... can someone tell me this... i hit the remote twice, it chirps once.. indicating its working, if the door is open it will chirp twice..... the light on my dash DOESNT work for the antitheft, and when i test it, ie... lock and wait..... open the door from the inside.... nothing happens... what can cause the alarm to not work? but still seem to arm by one chirp? Please advise
Doug

Try this:

Roll down the window.. get out... lock the doors with the remote. Wait a sec.. then open the door from the inside. Is that what you're doing?

If you are talking about the factory anti theft the "anti-theft" light needs to come on indicating the system is "activated" IIRC. Can you lock the doors with the door lock switch in the door, with the door open, and does the light come on?

Yes and yes

I can do the window thing... and nothing.... no light on the dash what so ever now.. I can hit the manual door lock but no light anymore.... but with the remote, if i double click it, i get one chirp... indicating its working.. but nothing is working.. no light... no alarm and it used too...

hmm.... maybe i'm missing something but i don't know of any factory ford alarms that "chirp" to arm or disarm. are you sure its not a malfunctioning aftermarket alarm or keyless entry?

for comparison.. the anti-theft on my explorer will arm with the power door locks, buttons on keyless entry pad, and remote, and the dash-light is always lit when activated. but the only sound confirmation is when i double press the lock button on the remote which will honk the horn (unless this is the chirp you're referring to).

Yes... thats what im refering too

Morgan97Ltd
yes thats what im refering to when i say chirp.. even in the owners manual, it says if you want to check and see if its armed, hit the remote button twice... you should hear one beep.. (sorry i refered to it as a chirp) and my truck does that... but no light, and no working alarm...

How long are you waiting after you try and arm it before you open a door? You have to wait at least 30 seconds after you arm it before the alarm is actually armed. If you are opening the door shortly after arming it then the alarm won't sound in which case maybe just your theft bulb has burned out? If you are waiting at least 30 seconds then it is probably a problem with the RAPS module.

Yes im waiting...

Robert Im waiting... no light... never... no alarm... can you talk about the RAPS module?... any way to test it?.. and i have pulled out the led behind the dash.. but im not sure how to check led's... and its a dealer item.. but it cant be the bulb... the alarm isnt working....

Do you have a keypad on your door?

What LED? There is no LED on a stock anti-theft system.

LED

yob_yeknom - Yes there is a led on a stock anti theft system.... the light behind the "theft" light.... if you take the dash out... its not a normal bulb.... its an led.. i guess for long life....

The RAPS (Remote Anti-theft Personallity System) is located in the rear storage compartment. It is the small, black box that has the 5-digit code on it. It is the electronic brains behind the security system. The only way that I know to test it involves a scanner that is capable of interfacing with the RAPS (in other words lots of $$$). This may be something that you have to take to Ford :(

Oh. I was assuming you meant a small LED on the dashboard like some aftermarket alarms use. My mistake.

There are quite a few Ford Vehicles with remote Keyless Entry and panic buttons that do not have anti theft. My 2000 F250 is like that, when you press the lock button on the keyfob a second time the chirp just tells you all the doors are locked, if it chirps twice it means a door is still ajar or not locked. At least that's what my owners manual told me about my truck. The dash has the space for that little theft light.

Have you gone through the procedure in the book to enable the security system? When i got mine, it was diable and i had to enable it. Like Mr_Evil said, you might not even have it.
