- '99 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4
edit: problem solved it was the horn fuse i am soo stupid!
I have '99 explorer xlt that i cant disable the car alarm on. I opened up the rear hatch to get my tools this morning and i heard a chirping coming from (i think) the engine compartment.
I tried to open the drivers door(same with passengers) with my key and it would not unlock, key would go in but not turn. So i tried the fob and none of the buttons worked. So i climbed in through the previously opened rear hatch to unlock the doors. I then tried to start the car but realized the battery was dead or near dead.
This was no surprise bc i knew i had a bad battery to begin with. While charging the battery the chirping was continuing so i assumed that it was the horn trying to go off because of the anti-theft system (i assumed this since keys stopped working). After charging it would still not start so i replaced the battery with a good one and now i get a good crank when trying to start but it still wont start and every time i put the horn fuse back in it starts going off like crazy. From what i've read online my key and fob are no longer programmed to my cars theft system???
Now im completely lost on what to do, i called a locksmith and they said i would have to take the car to ford and have them reprogram it or something and i really dont want to pay for a dealer to fix this.
So my question is, is there a way to bypass the alarm system or uninstall it so i can at least start my car? Or is there a tool i can buy to reset the alarm system? This also just had to happen on the same day i got my new transmission to replace the bad one in it
