Why don't you do it yourself? It's all plug and play and most come with instructions. Only takes a few minutes.

x2, you can put one ballast beside the air filter box on the fender apron, and the other beside the battery on the fender apron as well. they only take at the absolute most 45 mins to put in.

Which kit did you buy for your Explorer?

I am thinking of doing the same as lighting could be better and I would like to see how difficult this project would be...

Can you post pictures of the kit or post a link to the kit?

Thanks ...

ok how did you mount it i recived zip ties with mine i can do all the rest just not sure about messing with the battery and heres the link ranger7 www.vvme.com

you don't have to touch the battery. All it does is plug into your factory wiring. Then just ziptie the ballasts to something so they don't bounce around.

the ballast brackets should come with screws, and the ballast will clip into the bracket. you can mount the ballast behind the battery on the fender apron like this

ok thanks that must be the wireing harness that connects to the battery, we dont need that for our trucks right? i will give it a shot tommarow

Ok i hooked up one then tested it before i put it in the housing and it started flickering probrably just goin to have to take it to the shop and get the harness or something any other options?

Hooked up just the bulb or the ballast and everything?

I mentioned that I can help you out this weekend if you want...

Are you talking about the relay harness? A little searching around the net says that these are pretty cheap and can take some work to get working right. One thing to check is that all the plugs are making tight connections. It also recomends the relay harness that connects right to the battery if you see flickering and crappy startup.

Search around on some of the ricer forums, it looks like they use them and often have similar problems.

I bought and installed the same kit today...

I ordered this kit and received it yesterday and started working on installing it this morning...Mounted the lights first and then the ballasts...attached the leads and the power/grounds and turned on the switch...

Let there be light!!!...

The only issue I have is that it appears the high and low beams are switched...low beam seems higher than the high beam... But that is the only issue so far...

All I can say is make double certain that the ground leads are properly grounded then check the grounds again before dropping power to the lights... Mine work great...

Oh and the install was about an hour including removing the fromt cover for the top grill/condensor area and drilling self tapping screws to hold the ballasts to the body on the drivers' side...

My kit plugs into ONE headlight harness, then I had to run the pos. to the battery, and then a ground on each ballast...I have the bi-kit which was an absolute waste of money (sposed to be able to have high beams and low beams, but it just changes the light pattern, almost even down a little bit)

It took me maybe 10 mins to have the wiring completed, mounting the ballasts takes the longest...(20 mins?)

Like 99ex said, it's really not that hard. On mine the hardest part was lining up the grooves on the new bulbs to go into the housing and then the accompanying plastic lock ring - a problem whenever I replace bulbs, HID or not.

If you get zip ties they (the instructions or the merchant you bought them from) will most likely just tell you to find some holes in the engine bay body. Pretty rag-tag plan IMO, which is why I supplemented the zip ties with 3M double-sided adhesive, the same adhesive holding down the Ford emblem on my billet. I was able to mount mine on the outside wall of the engine bay, in the same compartment as the actual lamps.

I just did this yesterday, which is why this thread caught my eye...

Getting the locking ring onto the new bulb and then lining up the bulb into the housing was a bit of a problem...Instead of the zip-tie method I used routing clamps and conduit for most of my wiring... Plus routing it under the top cover in front of the core support and around/through the housing holes added a little time to the install..

Now did you use the single beam or the bixenon hi/low beam setup? How do you like the output and the hi/low beams if you got the bixenon setup?

I saw the original posters question and I wondered what was involved in installing these and since I needed better lighting anyway I used the same kit they bought and found it easier than installing my overhead console, my indash stereo, changing my oil pump, etc...

On a 1-10 scale I would rate this maybe a 2....

thanks to everybody who took the time to comment, i just did re read the instructions and what you guys said and that was it, just needed to be grounded.. the 3m double side adhesive worked like a charm. ill try to get pics up after work tommarow

The way you did it sounds clean, I like that, might have to revise my work. I only have the single beam, I would rate it about the same difficulty, 2/10.
