Ford Explorer XLT 2002
Hi Guys,

I've recently purchased a 2002 Explorer XLT V6, I have noticed this weird thing which looks like a bag but really do not know whether it belongs there, could someone advice on this please.

Also when reving the vehicle this bad stinky smell comes out and then goes away, not from exhaust, rather from engine bay.. could this be the culprit?

Please check photos below:

If I remember right from old posts I read in the past, that bag looking thing is some kind of moisture/mildew absorption packet Ford stuck in there. I don't think there is any harm in removing it, but double check on that. I don't have that on my EX. That bag could be the source of the smell or a funky "cabin air filter" if your vehicle has one or your neighbors dead cat stuck in your suspension. ;)

That bag is a heat insulating bag. It is supposed to help keep the air in the intake cooler. I don't know if it works or not. When I replaced my valve cover gaskets I put it back.
