I have a 96 XLT with stock cloth seats that are worn to crap. Anyone know of any seats that are a direct bolt in that are more comfortable? I assume leather seats out of a mountaineer are a bit nicer, but hate the idea of leather for a truck. Even if they wont bolt in, how about a set of seats that are about the right height that I could just make up some brackets for to attach to the stock sliders?

HANDS DOWN the most comfortable seats are the Limited Seats....available in Explorers from `93-01...they will ALL bolt it....there is some wiring changes, as they had a memory module, but it's easy to bypass...or you can bolt you current seat rack to the Limited Seat...they also have a seperate adjustable headrest. But EVERYTHING about the seat is superior to anything else that Ford did in that Chassis.....

The Saleen Explorers had a Recaro seat option, and they were spendy. But they aren't nearly as comfortable as the Limited Seat.

It's all preference- most Ford seats will bolt to the Ford tracks. I had Thunderbird seats in one of my Taurus SHO's. Someone here has Mustang seats in their truck. Just the wiring will need to be possibly modified.

Ryan- interesting on the Limited seats- I sort of agree- I love the ones in the first Gen, the second gen limited seats to me are the worst- they have no lateral support for your legs or side- but that's just me I guess.

I don't know why leather in a truck is bad, they're easier than cloth to wipe down and keep clean...

while we on the subject on 1st gen seats. I could ride all day in them. My driver side bracket is broke and rocks. I haven't taken the seat out yet to look. Is there a weak spot where they brake at?

I don't know of one- Probably need to pull it. Might have popped a retainer pin.

One more thing I didn't like about the Limited seats- those stupid flimsy plastic recline handles...

Being in MI, you might want to spray the underside of the seat belt bolt with some PB Blaster first. You're also probably going to need a breaker bar with your T50 Torx bit to get that one loose, as well. Or a cheater on your socket handle...

Oh! I'm sure of it. I love that P.B. Blaster. It has saved many busted knuckles.

Rsason for nO leather is its hot in the summer cold in the winter and i find it tears and stretches much easier than cloth. Not to mention if you spill something on perforated leather, your just as screwed as with cloth. For my camaro, i dint mind leather, but in my daily driver that holds my friends or my tools or wheels a d tires i dont feel its a good thing for me. I will try to find a set of limited seats and see how i like them. I personaly can sit on a concrete block and be fine but after being in my truck for 15 minutes, my girlfriends comlaining about her back which then makes me notoce how bad they suck. Thanks guys
