Well, after 2 weeks of back and forth between the dealer and I, I found a used tranny from an '04 Mountie with 23K miles....for $1300 !!!:D . I should get it by Thur or Fri this week....

Has anyone done an actual swap on a 5R55W?

My 04 X is an Auto 4x4 with the 4.6 V-8. ANY tips or suggestions to keep me from losing my head would be AWESOME:notworthy

I already have the refill stuff ready to go along with the fluid (Mercon V). I also plan on purchasing a repair manual just in case.

Thanks All

Mike:salute:

Lot's of clean rag's, Lot's of time and patience, 12 pack of bud lite and one buddy to blame it all on. Good luck and the sticky should help alot.

I checked the sticky, but all I am doing is swaping a 5R55W out for another 5R55W...My tranny is about shot...holds 1st up to about 4K rpms, no OD, and slips when you let off the accelerator even just a little or when going downhill...the "dealer" wants $4000 for a new one....or $3700 for a rebuilt one:eek:

Just looking for any "tricks" or if I'll need any "unusual tools"... I'll be doing this at the base "Auto Hobby Shop", so no beer-:( But I do have a friend to blame:p:

I am still looking for the tranny cooler line disconnect tool. I have some for fuel lines...looks like one posted here...keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all your input and suggestions:salute:

TTT.......anyone?....please....

Not many have experience with swapping out a 5R55W...too new. It really should be a bolt in operation. Make sure you rotate the TC a few revolutions back and forth and that it is fully seated.

Thanks Glacier991. This will be a first for me. Of course it sounds like a "simple" swap, but we all know how those usually go:confused:

Thanks Again

Mike
