Hey all,

Bought a 2003 Windstar a few months ago and I noticed right off the bat that while running and even when shut off and sitting (after it has been running) that there is a knocking sound coming from the front end. Every 10-15 seconds or so it seems like, it sounds like someone is rapping something under the hood.
I was walking in a parking lot the other day and heard a similar sound, and low and behold, there was a Windstar 2 cars down.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks
Aris

Was it a loud clicking? It may have been the AC compressor clicking on and off (i'm not sure how it works on the windstar)

edit: he said after it was turned off as well...disregard my post and look at spindle's

Most likely your cats cooling down

windstar owner here and never heard of such a problem

Could also be your front spindles cooling down, better ck um

Are the spindles a known issue? What would cause them to get that way?

Their messing with you, man. When rfuree11 said to look at spindle's he meant for you to look at spindlecone's post. :D

J/K dood, am the village idiot, your spindles are fine, not to worry, your cats are just cooling down, is normal :D

aww man...I'd like to say that I know a little bit about maintenance and mechanics and I totally missed it on this one...woosh...over my head on the joking! I would have thought if there was an issue they would have fallen off the van by now!

Girlfriend just left with the van and about 2 minutes after starting the van, I heard it. It sounds like something cooling down, but cats or exhaust warming up within a couple minutes of running? I don't know.
