I've seen this mentioned other places, but never any fixes or replies to what might cause it. My 93 Sport leans noticably to the drivers side..when parked on a level surface you can see it right off when looking at the back.
This is mainly a bugger since it gives less wheelwell clearance on the left side..a bummer when you want all you can get. I've added air shox to the back which havent seemed to help any..I've thought about hookin them up seperately to make the drivers side higher, but then thats just masking the problem and putting a strain on that shock..I'm also about to go full-polyurethane on my bushings in hopes that would help too. I've checked my body mounts, suspension, even shifted my toolbox and about 500lbs worth of gear to the passenger side but it STILL leans to the left..so anyone else have this or heard of this problem? I'd be VERY grateful to learn about what causes this and how I can fix it! :)

In my experience, all Explorers eventually lean somewhat to the left. The amount of lean varies, though. Mine leans pretty minutely, but it's a lean nonetheless. One hypothesis put forth is the off center location of the fuel tank putting more weight on the driver side (along with the driver always being there). However, if you've shifted all your gear, that should offset it. Basically, you got me!

Yes! My left side is probably about 1 inch or more lower. I do belive this is due to the gas tank being over there AND the driver. Also its from years of having a full tank and that sides springs have just worn quicker then the other side.

I have had this problem for the last two years, but I just got it repaired. The problem was that the drivers side torsion bar got tweeked while I was off-roading. So, when I repaired the ball joints, I also re-torqued the torsion bars and it ride level now.

I drink a can of V8 every morning and it still hasn't gone away!

It's the fuel tank. Mine sits about an inch to an inch and a half lower. From my understanding too is that the torsion bars on the 95+ are different sizes, but this wouldn't explain the pre-95's lean, so I'd have to say the fuel tank.

Sorry about that, the thread in which the problem was solved seems to have dissapeared from the site so I'll open this back up. I believe it had to do with adjusting the torsion bar on the right front corner.

Any solutions for 91-94?

A thank you to Stephen to opening it back up..

Have there been any solutions towards fixing this on the earlier models 91-94? Has anyone with suspension lifts had the same problem reoccur with aftermarket springs, etc?

Mine had the same tilt. I lowered the right front torsion untill the rear was level. The front is now about an inch different but it isnt noticable like it is in the rear.
When lowering with the torsion bar it isnt necessary to jack up the truck. Just give the adjuster a couple of turns and bounce the springs on a ride around the block and stop and see if you gotta lower it some more.
Its a preety easy fix.

Is it mainly you guys with 4WD that lean? I'm asking because neither my 94 nor Gimp's 94 lean at all, even with the gas tank full.

Mine leans drastically to the left. I've had two sets of leaf spring and coils springs give the same results.

I thought my eyes were playing tricks, but mine leans too!
At least 3/4" difference from ground to tupper-ware at the rear tire, and between 1/4" to 1/2" towards front tire.

And new springs and coils doesn`t even fix it? That is really strange!
What if I change the left side springs and coils to the right side?
Hmmm.. Lotta work to have it not work. lol! Maybe I should try with just the leaf springs and see what happens.
-Is that a dare?

Well, I dared my self I guess, and I`M GLAD I DID!

I:D :D :D

I swapped the rear leaf springs around and here are the results:

BEFORE

Rear, measured from shackles to ground indicated a difference of 3/4"

Front measured from frame behind bumper indicated a difference of 1/2"

AFTER

Rear, measured from shackles to ground indicated a difference of 3/16"

Front measured from frame behind bumper indicated a difference of 1/8"

I guess the idea that the springs fatigue faster on the drivers side would explain the lean phenomenon, but can`t explain why all new springs wouldn`t help.

Don`t want to do the front coils, but I bet that would even it right out.
I can live with it being out 3/16" though. I can`t notice it by looking at it now.:p

Mine leans to the left also.
I attribute it to the gas tank and 300lbs of Beef in the drivers seat!
It does not bother me.

mine also leans, is it that big of a deal, its not a big lean, is it putting strain on anything?
