Has anyone changed or had a oil pan gasket changed? The dealer wants $600 is that about right? I found it cheaper at a local shop, but it still was expensive. They said they have to raise the engine to drop the pan., what the hell was Ford thinking! Any comments or suggestion would be helpful. Thanks

Yes the engine has to be lifted or removed to get to the Oil pan. The front crossmember is in the way. Its a job so make sure its the pan thats leaking and not a Valve cover or the rear main etc.

You need a long shank T35 or 40 (dont remember which)torx bit to get to the rear bolts. Make sure the corners of the bearing caps are CLEAN, and that you use just a spot of RTV at each bearing cap corner. Its an aluminum casting so watch the torque on the bolts. Its rather simple install-AFTER you pull or lift the engine.
While the pan is out you might want to clean the pan and clean the oil pick up. If youve got some miles it will be gunked up I would bet.

Good luck

Thanks Steve, did you do it yourself or did you have it done? if you had it done, about how much did it run you, close to $600 or is that too much?

I did it when I had my engine out to be rebuilt- sorry I can't help you with the cost.
