Hi -

I know that if you shift interlock malfunctions, then you can't move from P to N,R,D,....

But yesterday, I could not move it from D to R. And theneverrything was good.

Could those be related ?

Yes, the first time that my shift interlock malfunctioned it was from trying to go from R to D (movement to N was fine)and the only way to get it out of it was to shut the vehicle off (IIRC it was ok for a couple of days and then it started doing it all the time). Thought it was the brake switch at first because I could get it to work correctly sometimes by pushing harder on the brake, but it ended up being the shift interlock.

OK, thanks Gibby.

I was confused because I thought that once you are out of/unlocked from P position, you can move freely between the rest of the grid.

I believe that there is other safety measures so you cannot accidently knock the tranny in the opposite direction unless the brake is applied which is why you can slide from D to N while rolling and R to N.

Do you recall the part # ?

Is it 6L2Z-7J437-B ?

Are you talking about the solenoid? It is easy enough to take the top off the console and watch all the pieces as they activate or move.

My shift mystery is, when it is cold, it is very difficult to pull out of park. I thought it might have been the lock solenoid but watching it, with the top of the console removed, all that was working fine.

Great

Thanks Flag Gibby

I had a similar issue in my old 06 and it ended up being soda or coffee that went down the cracks and gummed up the mechanism. It would stick when cold. I pulled the console apart, used degreaser sparingly and cleaned it with a small brush. Then I lubed everything up with white lithium grease.
