Anybody pop screws while changing air filters?

I've changed my air filter a couple of time now and have broke two of those little screws that hold the top of the filter case on. I just try to unscrew them and pop they break. Does everyone have this problem or am I alone? Does anyone have a suggestion for how to get the other end of the screw out? Do I just have to buy a new air box? I really don't want to buy one of those kits that gets rid of the airbox because I like the stock look.

And if people recommend drilling and trying an EZ-Out I think I would just frustrate myself trying this technique.

I think I still have one screw left holding it together. I hope it holds until my next air filter change.

Any Suggestions?

Sounds like either your over torqing(sp?) the screws or you are getting corosion. If you are getting corosion.. Take the screw out again.. put on some "anti-sieze" and put it back in. I use that stuff all the time and it works great.. I even use it on exhaust bolts.. makes it so I can still take them off.. even after many 1000's of miles..

The stuff comes in a tube.. is silver/greyish.. and stinks.. and stains your hands (wear gloves). It is over by the RTV (liquid gaskett stuff)

ya i had the same problem the cheap little scews stripped on mine though so i just replaced them with stainless bolts

I was wondering the same thing. My '97 SOHC had two flip up locks that held the top cover on. There weren't any screws to turn to remove my filter from my stock box.
