has anyone ever painted the handle that open's the window/back glass?..i plan on doing it in about 20min's..how to i get it off?

Two nuts on the inside of the hatch. A pain in the ass to get to. Most people just mask and paint these things I think. I can take some pics if you want. But you have to remove the inside plastic deal and such.

didn't paint the handle but if i remeber correctly there are 2 nuts that hold it in place. they thread onto some studs attached to the handle mechanism.


i had it off over the summer when i repainted my explorer. I don't remeber exactly how it was on there off the top of my head. But if you get the panel off and take a look you can probably figure it out. It really wasn't to difficult.

i was thinkin about just maskin it off..but i want to get to the back side and do a good job..not half assed..i will take pic when i do it

pic's would be cool..but i just need to take the plastic off the back side and unbolt it?

pretty much thats about it.

there will be some linkages in there too that ties stuff togther for locks and what not.

its not "hard" but could be a little time consuming when compared to just masking off the tailgate.

i should also note mine is a '91

i doubt it is that different but you never know

and disconnect all the linkage. I haven't actually taken mine off. I was just looking at the one on the hatch in my dining room.

im wonderin how the linkage is set-up..cause if i end up just redoing this hatch..could i do a handle like on the normal door's for the back door and a poper or somthing for the window?

Geeze, you're going to put yourself into debt buddy! I just priced base coat, clear coat for my project and for a quart of each and supplies was $95 So I'm just going with Arcrylic Enamel for $40.
