I've got a 97 Mountaineer ( just like an Explorer) with the 5.0 V8 and over the last few months it's developed what sounds like an exhaust leak coming from the engine compartment on the passenger side. I'm assuming that this is a common problem with the 5.0's because I know two other people who have explorers with the 5.0 motors and they also have the same ticking exhaust leak sound coming from the front passenger side. Here's the strange thing, after the motor has warmed up a few minutes the sound goes away. But it's like someone turned a switch off, it's there and then the next second it's quite. Is there any kind of valve that might be leaking and then after it closes it's quite again? I've looked and the exhaust manifold gaskets and I can't see any black spots were exhaust is leaking from where the manifolds bolt to the block. I don't see any signes of exhaust leakage at all. Anyone have any ideas that might help me out? Thanks
