I am in the process of having the engine replcaed in my 03. The mechanic is trying to charge me an additional $140.00 to re-charge the AC system. I have never pulled a 4.0 but I know when I pulled my 4.6 out of my Mustang I was able to move the compressor to the side so that I did not have to open the system up or re-charge it afterwards.

He is telling me that with the 4.0 you HAVE to open the system, there is no way to get the engine out without opening it. So has anyone pulled their motor and left the ac system in tact?

Next thing is that I am getting charged for all new DPFE and EGR valves and solinoids, he is saying that they are plastic and that during the removal procedure all the plastic nipples broke. Does this usually happen or is it just a matter of him not taking enough care of the parts during removal?

EGR valve, will this need to be changed?

I know on the DPFE senesor they are hard plastic nipples that the hoses slip on to (or at least they are on a Vulcan 3.0 that I replaced once) The only way he could have broken then is if he was using a pair of pliers to remove the vaccum hose off them. The hoses hould have just pulled off. Sound like he was using gorilla to get them off.

Then again, if the plastic is old, it could have deteriorated enough to make it brital
