I just bought a Scangauge II for my '97 5.0 AWD. One of the main reasons I bought it was because of the transmission temp gauge. I programmed the numbers into it, but the display for the trans temp remains blank.

The mpg and trip info work fine, even though the Scangauge website says they don't work...

I tried my scangauge 2 in my wife's 97 Explorer and it didn't show mpg, speed, or miles anything, or the tranny temp.

I've got a scanguage 1, and it works fine for speed, mpg, etc, but I don't think the gauge supports tranny temp. Actually, I didn't think it had that at all on he '97 (i.e. I didn't think it was available.).

brianjwilson - Does your wifes '97 have a 4.0 or 5.0? My mpg, gallons, miles and things like that work fine, but it may be just for the 5.0's.

Joe - The trans temp was a new thing on the Scangauge II. I tried it in my Dad's 2003 Chevy truck and the trans temp and A/F ratio worked fine. I was really hoping the trans temp would work in my X. It doesn't work on my '96 Suburban either though.

On my Explorer, the "torque into torque converter" and "torque converter line pressure" both work fine. I'm not sure what I would use either of those for... but at least they work. :D "Cylinder head temp" does not work. I haven't tried any others yet.

Yeah, I guess what I was trying to say was that I've never heard of the transmission having a temperature gauge on the '97, so that data would not be available to the scangauge. If someone wants it, then they add a sensor and gauge. Search around if you're interested in that route.

My wife's explorer is the 4.0 OHV, so you may be right that it only works with the 5.0L in 97.

I have considered purchasing this device before. Does anyone know if the 3gen with the 4.0 SOHC/5r55w contain the transmission sensor that I will be able to access with this Scan Gauge II?
