Curtis - YES! (THANKS for taking the time out to take those pics as well - your undercarriage is really clean too!)
here's my question now - when under my 2004 XLS 4.6 (because I had to R&R the ABS sensor), I noticed that on the ends of my half shafts (where they are inserted into the rear), that black rubber section on each half shaft seems to be separated from my rear diff housing....
Should these seals or parts actually be inserted into the diff or "sealing" it?
See on this pic of yours:
Where you can see some gear fluid seepage on that right half shaft (where the black seal on the end of the half shaft is) - should that area or part be closer to or inside of the diff's opening there? The reason I am asking is I see some seepage on mine just as seen in your pic. The other pic you have of the left halfshaft at the same area on yours looks to be dry.
When looking at mine closer, it seems that that part (seal, or whatever the correct term is) is separated slightly from the diff housing. My thinking at the time is that this should not be separated, as it seemed to me that it's supposed to seal the opening there to avoid fluid seepage... no?
Is there an inner seal in the diff where the half shaft is inserted to prevent fluid seepage - or is that black-rubber like part the seal on the half shaft?
I hope I'm not confusing anyone... don't know how else to explain it...
