ok, so here's the story, i wanted to tune my Exploder up because, i wasn't sure if it had been done. I got the plug wires from car quest, i got premium wires, the lifetime warranty, they screwed up, one caused a major miss. so i returned them, went directly for the motorcraft wires, i figure that would be the best here. but this morning i had a bad miss. i put my old plug wires on and there it goes, no miss, runs fine. so why is it that i am having so many problems with these new wires.

Be sure you have to firing order right. Also make sure each wire goes to the correct plug. If I recall, the shortest one needs to go to cyl#6 and so forth...it's been a while since I had to mess with plugs n wires on my truck, because I use Jacobs wires and Motorcraft plugs :) Install those, and forget about them.

Make sure each wire gets seated properly on the plug end. You have to hear/feel that 'snap' for it to be right. Also, make sure all the wires are completely clear of the exhaust manifolds.

check to all, i work in the automotive industry, i know how to do a tune up. i just am wondering why all these spark plug wires are not working properly, yet, when i put the old ones on, they work just fine.

Maybe the Motorcrafts were defective? Maybe the parts guy gave you the wrong wires for your 1st gen OHV 4.0? I have always had good results with Motorcraft wires....

Your coil pack must be ok, or else your old wires would do the same.

Doesn't mean anything :D Could have easily missed the contact on one plug. Try the new ones again & if it misses, pop the hood while running & wiggle each wire till you find it. If that doesn't do anything, try another set of wires. If those don't work stick the old ones back on & live with it.

I had the same thing happen with my Taylor wires & I just had to push a bit harder to get the wire contacting the plug.
No problems since.

it may be something that has to do with my truck, for some odd reason it just wont take the new wires and it's really bugging me....

It'd be nice to have a scanner to look at the misfire count and if it's missing a lot on one, then try to change the wire with another and see if that cylinder starts to miss.

Maybe the parts guy gave you 4.0 SOHC wires...
